Southeast Texas Association of Diabetes Educators

Who we are: Diabetes educators are healthcare professionals who assist people with diabetes to live well and avoid diabetic complications.

Diabetes educators are healthcare professionals - registered nurses, registered dieticians, doctors, exercise physiologists, podiatrists, and social workers, among others who specialize in the care and education of people with diabetes. Many diabetes educators have also earned the certified diabetes educator (CDE) credential, which requires considerable experience and passage of a rigorous national exam.

Diabetes is a very personal disease. Diabetes educators help guide persons with diabetes through the treatment of their disease and help with any problems that may arise.

What we do: We are qualified to teach meal planning, blood glucose monitoring, insulin administration, exercise, and adjusting to the psychosocial aspects of living with a chronic illness. Diabetes educators work in hospitals, clinics, and private practice offices. We partner with doctors and nurse practitioners who treat people with diabetes. We are on speaker's bureaus and advisory boards to assist with community projects and diabetes research.

Diabetes educators may work in a hospital or outpatient setting and may teach individual or group classes.

The Southeast Texas Association of Diabetes Educators (STADE) is a local chapter of the American Association of Diabetes Educators. Members are encouraged to become certified diabetes educators as certification ensures expertise and a higher level of commitment to the treatment of diabetes.

Where we meet:  Generally in the Texas Medical Center - see flyer for details.
